Lock-In FAQ

Who needs a waiver?

Everyone! Anyone who will be in the gym during the lock-in will need to complete a waiver.

How much does a Lock-in cost?

The cost per participant is $25 for Recreational Lock-in:  12 hours of private access, belay orientation for adult supervisors and teens, and safety harnesses. Recreational Lock-ins cost a minimum of $625.

The cost per participant is $32 for Merit Badge Lock-in:  12 hours of private access, climbing merit badge instruction (see Lock-In main page for details), supervisor for the evening, and harnesses. Merit Badge Lock-ins cost a minimum of $640.

Adult Participants: We allow 2 FREE adult supervisors to attend the Lock-In at no charge.  All other adults are subject to the rate designated lock-in type if they intend on climbing.  All adults spending the night but not participating in climbing will have a charge of $15.

What type of instruction is included?

Recreational Lock-Ins include a belay orientation on our fixed "gri-gri" belay stations. Scout Lock-Ins include instruction toward BSA merit badges, Girl Scout Patches, and Venturing Awards, if desired.

We want to earn the BSA Climbing Merit Badge. How do we prepare?

If your scouts have studied the BSA Climbing Merit Badge Pamphlet, and completed the BSA Climbing Workbook, we can usually complete most of the requirements in one night.

We do not cover/complete requirements 1, 2 or 7.
Please complete them before your lock-in. Any scout who is taking the merit badge should also have a blue card for the counselor to sign off on.

We would like something different than what you describe here. Is that possible?

Absolutely, yes! Groups with a specific goal or request for the night should speak to an Escalade manager upon reserving the lock in date and we will make sure your needs are met.

Is there a requirement for adult supervision?

Groups with climbers 10 years old or younger will need to have at least one parent per 5-6 climbers to help belay throughout the night. Escalade will provide 1 guide for every 5-6 climbers for the first hour of all Lock-Ins. One "lifeguard" will supervise throughout the entire night.

Is a deposit needed to secure a date?

See RESERVATION POLICIES for further deposit and cancellation details.
What equipment is needed?
We provide safety harnesses and climbing equipment. Climbers should wear loose, comfortable clothing, tight-fitting, flexible shoes, and bring their own sleeping bags, pillows, and warm clothing for sleeping.

Is there an age limit?

No.

What's the maximum number of people allowed to attend?
160

What should we bring?

Plan to bring a sleeping bag and pillow.  You should also plan to bring warm clothes as the facility can get chilly at night.  Don't forget your waiver form.  If it's merit badge lock-in bring your blue cards and merit badge booklet.

What else do I need to know?

All climbers and participants, including adult supervisors, will need a LIABILITY WAIVER signed by their parent or legal guardian. We recommend parents complete and submit our Waiver online prior to arrival for your group event. It can also be completed on arrival.
